HOW MATTHEW DISCOVERED WHAT HE WANTED AND HOW TO GET THERE

Matthew works at a global, environmental not-for-profit organisation as a Senior Data Product Manager. He’s responsible for managing the delivery and development of the suite of data outputs that they provide to member organisations and partners.

We created a bespoke Deep Dive engagement together; working 1:1 for around 90 days.

What was going on in your business & life when you began to work with Megan?

When I first reached out to Megan, I was looking for a change. I had been working at the same organisation and (more or less) in the same work-stream for eight years. My perception was that the rate of my own personal development and learning had slowed, but I was at a bit of a loss with regards to how to affect change in a strategic manner. Really this stemmed from indecision about what I actually wanted and a poorly defined vision of my future.

What hesitation or concerns did you have about working with Megan?

After the initial conversations I had with Megan, my biggest concern about embarking on a program of work was expense. I knew already from our conversations that working with Megan would be productive and that we had great rapport, however, coaching is (in some ways quite rightly) not cheap and this would be a considerable expenditure for me.

What specific results have you achieved?

Since working with Megan I feel that I have gained a greater sense of confidence in working on defining my goals and creating a plan of action to meet them. I feel much better equipped to continue to work on and dissect the elements of these topics. Megan helped me discover the mental tools and approaches with which to tackle what felt like anxiously BIG questions about my personal development and career/life path. The kind of questions that because of the way I perceived their intimidating size, complexity and importance, I had been putting off truly engaging with.

What did you like most about working with Megan?

What I liked most about working with Megan was the immediate sense of productive, pro-active, rapport. Megan manages to blend remarkable cheerfulness, humour and empathy with a "get shit done" attitude in a way which immediately both impressed and energised me. I didn't leave a single session without being in a positive, productive and proactive mood. This really helped me make progress outside our sessions on both the work we were doing together.

What was the biggest thing that you took away from working with Megan?

The biggest things I took away from working with Megan were, firstly, a suite of thought experiments and approaches to continue working on the topics we explored in our sessions. Secondly, the confidence to continue working on this on my own. To leave our sessions with either one of these would have been a good outcome, but to have both makes me feel really empowered to truly actualise the changes I'd like to see.

What do you think would have happened if you hadn’t worked with Megan?

If I hadn't hired Megan I'm very confident that I would have still been procrastinating on engaging with the topics we covered. Before we worked together I didn't have the tools to break the questions about my future career down into what felt like more manageable and directional items. Without Megan's support and experience I would very likely have been no closer to understanding what change I actually want to make or how to make it.

Who would you recommend to work with Megan?

You should work with Megan if, like me, you have been looking for change but are struggling with both choosing the destination and plotting the map to reach it.
